Encoder speed in DVD-RB using single/multiple encoder processes

Just reporting in a result using HC020, Best, multiple (Athlon X2 3800 OC to 2500Mhz) processors, 1Gb Corsair (2 x CMX512-3200C2) at 2-6-6-8, standard matrix, no filters (BR was just on 4000 - source was The Departed, R4).

CPU fluctuated between 98-100% at all times.

209,507 (PAL) frames in 100 minutes = 34.9 fps average

This is about 40-50% faster than Procoder Mastering quality on my machine.

What problem are u seeing with Procoder? I'm running it on my Quad core and as I reported on my thread it works just fine with four instances running, encoding averaged around the 40 minute mark on 7gig discs, Hanks latest version was a bit quicker at around the 35 minute mark. Didn't try cce as you can only run one instance at a time. I'm on Vista now and have noticed a slow down on encoding times since switching from XP. If you want me to test anything please let me know

i personally dont see any problem with procoder
it isnt the fastest encoder but i never cared much for speed

cce is significantly faster than procoder but still i prefer procoder

hank315`s encoder hc 020 is an incredible freeware and a real gift to the community

I'm addressing yourself UncasMS, in your first post you state "Procoder2 doesnt seem to like interference as well and is best left alone running only once instance at a time" I take it you mean that it does not run well under multilple encoder option. with that option enabled it starts 4 encoding threads with procoder and encodes movies at excellent speeds, just not as fast as Hanks. Procoder is still my encoder of choice. If I read your post wrong please let me know.

i'm definitely in favour of procoder2 and i think i have said so in this forum for a very long time now - nothing has changed ever since:
i do prefer procoder to any other encoder

all i was saying is that running "multiple encoder" option with dvd-rb AND procoder wouldnt be my first choice as i see no gain from doing so

run a single instance of procoder2 with dvd-rb and you'll get superb quality in a reasonable time

Maybe its down to the processor employed I know my Quad is very comfortable running 4 instances during encoding and thus cuts the encoding process in half and thats at mastering quality, so you lose none of the benifits of Procoder while reducing the encoding time. So based on your experience with a dual core there is not much difference in running two instances of Procoder but with 4 cores the benifits are increased
