    Mpeg?

Ok, I d/l'ed four mpg files to skip the encoding part, but when I tried to burn them with Nero it told me that there was an error and that I couldn't open them. I used to TMPGenc to re-encode them but that didn't work. How could I find out what kind files they are? Or do I just change then extension .mpg to .asf then use tmpg to re-encode them, then burn it with Nero? I checked the file info but gave me nothing. Will opening up the files with Word Pad help out with finding the codes used?

Pklay one of the files in Windows Media Player. While it's playing, select "Properties". Click on the "Advanced" tab. Doubleclick on "Video Codec" to see what type of file it is...

I played one of them on WMP and checked the Advance Tab. This is what it gave me:
      1. Media: Maximum Bitrate 606.8 Kbps
      Selected Bitrate 606.8 Kbps
      Audio: Frames Skipped 0
      Frame Rate 0 fps
      Actual Rate 12.7 fps
that is all that WMP gave me on the info on one of the files. I'm still tryin to get info on the other files.

That looks more like you clicked on "Statistics".

What version of Windows Media Player are you using?

I'm using WMP 7.1 I think, but that's the only info I could find on it or that it will give me. I hate 7.1 takes forever to load up I miss 6.4.

Install Windows media player v.6.4 (by clicking on "Run" from the Start button, and typing MPLAYER2.EXE.

Then, as I said previously, play one of the files in Windows Media Player. While it's playing, select "Properties". Click on the "Advanced" tab. Doubleclick on "Video Codec" to see what type of file it is...

Here is what the Advance Tab gave me:
Filters in use: Default Direct Sound Device
              DivXG400
              Microsoft MPEG-4 Video Decompressor
              Subtitle Mixer
              Video Renderer
Codecs in use: Nothing here, just blank
but the video size is 240x180, could that be the problem with burning it with Nero?

                "Microsoft MPEG-4 Video Decompressor"

The file is a DivX-compressed .AVI file...

So all I have to do is just change the .mpg to .avi? I'll give that a try open it up with TMPG.

Ok, for two of the files that I changed the extension it worked and TMPGenc is encoding them now but what about the other two? They both have Windows Media Audio 8 and Windows Media Video 7. How do I convert it so that Nero will burn them?

I had problems burning avi's with Nero, used setarip's advice on converting the avi's with tmpgenc to mpeg and didn't have any probs with nero after that with the avi's.
