Hi all,
I am a newbie, attempting to capture older 8mm camcorder videos. I have the ATI AIW 8500DV, with Ulead software with the card. I am attempting to capture the video, and burn it to VCD or DVD in the future.
I am using the Ulead software (VideoStudio 6.0) to capture the VCD at normal size (352x280), but when I burn it to a CD, it looks terrible through my DVD player. It looks like it was captured with the wrong aspect ratio. I have attempted to capture at many different sizes (even up to MPEG2), then burn it at VCD, same problem. The best I have gotten so far is to capture at 640x480, then burn it. However, the quality is still not as good as when I play my camcorder directly through the TV.
What is the best way for me to capture the video? I have researched quite a bit, but haven't found a good conclusion. I have read lots about TPMGEnc doing the converting, but I would like someone to tell me what they think the best tools I should be using for this. I have read from several different sources that I should be capturing in AVI, then converting to MPEG using TPMGEnc....is that the best quality I'm going to get?
Am I expecting too much? Should I be getting my VCD to play at the same quality as my camcorder? It is not a digital, or even a Hi-8 camcorder, so I would assume the source should be about a VCD quality.
Thanks in advance for any advice you can give. I have read so many posts from different sites I am getting a headache.
Tim
