I got a DVD Player for Christmas saying that it can read CD-R...I was all happy because I have over 45 movies downloaded movies on my computer...I tried burning them with a whole bunch of programs and encoders/decoders and im still lost...nothing works....

All I need to know is which program works the best to encode/decode so I can play them on my DVD Player?

What type of file I need to encode them as

and last but not least which burn program is the best?...but I think you guys have already answered that for me already in all the other posts...Nero

Assuming that you've made good VCDs, you still have to contend with the fact that, even if your standalone DVD player does accept CD-R burned VCDs, it may be very "finicky" as to which brands of CD-Rs it will recognize. I know how you feel - try this -- it works.

Download TMPGEnc from http://www.tmpgenc.com/ (freeware for now)

Install and run it - load in your avi or mpeg file.

click on settings at the bottom.

click the VIDEP tab and set the following:

Strean-type - MPEG-2 Video
Size - 480 x 480
Aspect ratio - 4:3
Frame rate 29.97 fps
Rate control mode - Automatic VBR(CQ_VBR)

Leave rest in here alone except Video format should be set to NTSC (I think - try PAL in your area in case this doesn't work).

Click the Advanced tab and ONLY set the following:

Video arrange method - Full screen (keep aspect ratio)

Click ok and then click start.


When done bring up Nero and click Super Video cd.

click new and enter your new mpeg file name.

A pop up will say svcd is non-complient - tell it to continue anyway (do not click reconvert).

When done put the cd in your player and just hit start or play.


This should work - you have created an SVCD which is a little higher quality then a plain one and will hold more, but you cannot change the frame rate or the size.
