Can anyone please tell me how i get a 2 cd vcd to fit onto 1 cd and also play in a standalone player.

If, you yourself created the two VCDs and still have the original video file, then re-encode at a lower video bitrate (use a bitrate calculator.) No matter how you re-encode you will be creating an XVCD as the VCD standard has a fixed video bitrate of 1150kbps and you will be re-encoding at a lesser rate. Less video bitrate=poorer quality video.
