    noobs question

I'm new (both to VCDs and these forums, so hi ), and i'm currently making my first VCD. I'm just wondering - 'cause i've been browsing these forums, and I'm a little confused - when you burn a VCD, do you only have to burn the MPEG1 file, or are there other things that you have to include in order to be able to play it on a DVD/VCD player? Thanks in advance, Eddy_B.

o, and i forgot to ask, is it possible to burn onto a cd-rw or does it have to be a cd-r? I know these are really simple questions, but it's the only way I'll learn .

when your standalone is able to recognize a cd-rw you can also use this.

you have to select the VCD mode in your burner software
then a mpeg1 file (containing video and audio) is sufficient data
      to create a VCD

Thanks for the help. Is there any burning software (preferably free ) that you could recommend?

I use NERO burning ROM. It does a great job and even gives you an opportunity to make a little 'menu' out of a .BMP file. (newer versions) You can create VCD and SVCD. Just drag the file on to it. Good luck!
