    Need help with capturing

Someone please help if you can, I am ready to pull my hair out. I got Dazzle DCV 80 USB. I am trying to capture from satelite receiver. I don't know what I am doing wrong. I've tried using the software that came with it and I've tried to use Vitual dub and I cannot capture. The drivers are shown as installed for the Dazzle. I can get picture on the screen but no audio and it won't capture.

In vitual dub I cannot get the vidio compression and the audio will not give me any options to set. I may be missing downloads that I don't have any idea what I need to make things work. I've tried to download pic video, it will not work. I've downloaded huffy, it does not even show in the compression options.

Try downloading the DiVX codecs. They should show up in Virtual DUB. Also make sure that the Dazzle is a VFW (Video For Windows) device otherwise you'll have to use their software.

For sound, you may have to go into your sound card instead or your Dazzle. Make sure to check the audio properties in the control panel to see if the right device is selected for recording.

In virtual dub, do not try to capture to a compressed audio codec. Just use PCM capture. You can go back later and compress the audio. But try the DiVX codec for capture.

I don't have the Dazzle so I can't give you any specifics but I do have a Belkin USB Videobus II and it works pretty well. Doesn't grab a perfect 29.97 frames though.

Once you get more familiar with virtual dub, look into the stripe feature. This allows you to dump audio and index to one file and the video to another. Increased performance and allows for a much larger capture with 2 Gb in each file possible. Roughly 4 Hours.

      dazzle 80

got the same capture device, had the same probs when i first used it make sure that the audio is set to dvc 80 (try both versions in the drop down menu) etc.. u can even use mgi video wave to capture directly as a divx, but be carefull if you try to capture anything over 30mins long you may get a file thats out of synch, doesnt happen if you capture as a ntsc tv format though.
if that happens just use virtual dub or premier to re-synch it....hope this helps
