Black borders in Nero Express SVCD

First time here....When I am attempting to make a SVCD slideshow using the latest and greatest Nero, I use a combination scanned 4x6 pics and digital camera shots. The scanned photos don't fill the Playback Window in Express but leave a black border at the top and bottom of the picture. The ones from the camera fill the Playback Window perfectly. What am i doing wrong, I have tried the 4:3, 16:9, automatic settings. but the only area of trouble and it's really tickin' me off is the inability to have the scanned photos fill the playback screen (without cropping which of course takes part of the pic away). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It would seem obvious that the scanned photos are of different resolution(s) than your digital camera shots. As such, your only options are the two you've already mentioned - black space or cropping (because altering the resolution of the scanned images would distort them)...
