VCD & SVCD onto DVD-R

Ok,

As the title suggests. I want to create a VCD or SVCD to play on a DVD player, but use DVD-R's (more movie space etc)

I will be using MGI WideoWave5 and get the program to create an image on Hard Disk so I can copy it to DVD-R

Can this be done. Has anyone tried it and worked? Or will the DVD players recognise the DVD-R and assume the format of the film should be DVD?

I haven't tried it yet, but would like to know whether it will work or not before I start wasting blank DVD-R's
