Problem with DVD drive not able to read VCD

Maybe someone can help me with this problem. I have a VCD, I'm able to play the VCD on my DVD player, but my DVD drive is not able to read the disk. The error message says the disk may be corrupt or the disk is using a format not compatiable with windows.

this is a dvd-rom or a dvd writer?

"The error message says the disk may be corrupt or the disk is using a format not compatiable with windows."

first try to clean it--can't hurt. but the drive may not like that type of disc.
this drive reads other formats ok? only this one disc?
