    Problem using Virtual Dub

Hi all, wondered if anyone can help me with this.

    I'm trying to cut a Divx into two sections. The DivX plays file as I downloaded it but when I load the DivX up in VirtualDub I get;

'VirtualDub has detected an improper VBR audio encoding in the source AVI file and will rewrite the audio header with standard CBR values during processes for better compatibility. The may introduce upto 22483 ms of skew from the video stream'.

As a result of this when I output it as seperate video and audio tracks to remerge in TMPEnc as the video gets further along, the video and audio go out of sync.
I have also tried loading the wav and avi into Adobe Premier and it shows the audio as a bit longer than the audio.

Another prob is with this DivX when I try saving the audio from in Premier its just making a blank file.

    HELP anyone

That means that the audio track was encoded in variable bitrate (VBR). VirtualDub can not handle VBR. Use Nandub instead. But if you want to convert the avi files into MPEG-1 or MPEG-2, using TMPGEnc, it is better to convert the VBR audio into uncompressed wav. Gives less audio problems in TMPGEnc.

      Hi thx for the reply.

I've loaded the DivX into nandub now without any errors occuring. I've still got one problem though.

I've output the audio to a wav, using Direct Stream Copy, and the video to an avi, same using a Direct Stream Copy.

When I load the original divX and also the 2 seperate audio and video files the timing of the files is as follows,

      Orig DivX = 01:34:01:08
      avi video = 01:34:01:08
      wav audio = 01:34:01:24

The same happened when I used Virtuadub, and also when I convert either the original divx or the seperate files to an mpg using TMPEnc, in the second half of the movie especailly the video and sound isn't in sync.

      Any ideas ???

Is the sync error constant over the whole movie or is it ok at the start and increases toward the end ?
If it is constant it's quite easy to correct, but if its increasing you will have to use an audio editing tool to squeeze the wav a bit.

          hello,

herman, you mention that you'd have to use an audio editor squeeze the wav to match the video.

          What program do you suggest?

ive been at this for two weeks, now
