Gettimg my Avi files to work with tempenc

Hello, I have a few movies in Avi. format and I want to make them to vcd(mpeg-1) but when I open tempgenc, and load the file it says
"C:/seansfile/dvd/the file name(don't know if I should type the name, not bad or anything).avi" can't open, or unsupported"
I don't know whats going on with that program, but it says that with all my Avi. movies, please help, thanks

    1) Have you created the .AVI files or downloaded them?

    2) Have you successfully played them on your PC?

      thanks

Yeah, I downloaded it, and it seams to be working thanks, but, I'm not sure, but with that prewiew screen, while it is encoding looks like it is making it go twice around, I don't really know, but thanks for all your help setarip, I really apriciate this.

If TmpgEnc will not open the avi file it could be that the avi file was encoded with a different version of the DivX codec to the one you have on your PC. I suggest re-encoding it using Virtua Dub so it will be encoded with the same codec version.

This is just an idea and Im not sure it is a real solution to anything but hopefully it may help.
