    Please Help Me!!!

Sorry if this was already asked, I'm new to this kind of thing
    ok....here's my problem
I converted a .rm file to .avi ,using tinra.
but, when I played it, there was a black screen with sounds only...
Then, I realised I needed to compress it or something...so I installed Virtual Dub.
and now, I don't really know which codec and which sound thingy to choose...
Can any kind-hearted people help me with this?

    Hallo

I don't know if I can help, but here's some suggestions and q's:

I'm assuming that a .rm is a a RelaMedia file?? If so, then can you play that file on your PC b4 you encode?? If not, then you will nedd to install that app first so that you have the codec necessary to deal with .rm video compression. Here's a good q [no offense intended]: does the original file have vid stream in it, or is it just audio??

You see, if companyX invents brandX vid compression of their own design, nothing else understands it. So you must install their soft first so that it can be dealt with. Then check that u can play it and that it contains vid. If so, you should be able to convert it to another vid format, most likely avi of some description. Then encode it. Make sure that you are setting options for the video extraction, compression when encoding, or else you may end up leaving it out in the final encoded file.

I don't know what file you are trying to encode, what's in it or even what soft u are using, so that is all I can suggest right now.
