    Conversion Time with TMPGEnc!!!

    Please somebody help!,
I am encoding a 90 min movie at the highest quality with TMPGEnc. When it started it estimated 34 hours. It just passed the 34hr mark and says there is still 8hrs to go!
Is there any program that goes even the slightest bit faster?
Does converting at the "highest quality" show a dramatic difference over "normal quality"?
Also is it possible to split part of the AVI then convert each half and then place them back together? If so what program can I do that with?
Finally, if anyone can share any info on how to save even a couple hours please feel free to reply.
    Thanks.

"Does converting at the 'highest quality' show a dramatic difference over 'normal quality'?"

No. Your conversion time will be reduce SIGNIFICANTLY by selecting "Normal"

    Splitting with VirtualDub

Use v.1_4_10 or 1_4_9 (or 1.4D or earlier) as follows:

1)Load your original (DivX-compressed or otherwise) .AVI into VirtualDub
    2) Set BOTH "Video" and "Audio" to "Direct Stream Copying"
    3) From the "Edit" dropdown menu, select "Set Selection Start"
    4) Move slider to approximate halfway point
    5) From the "Edit" dropdown menu, select "Go to next keyframe"
    6) From the "Edit" dropdown menu, select "Set Selection End'
    7) From the "File" dropdown menu, select "Save as AVI" - Save as a new filename (e.g. "Movie1of2.avi").
    8) From the "Edit" dropdown menu, select "Set Selection Start"
    9) From the "Edit" dropdown menu, select "Move to End"
    10) From the "Edit" dropdown menu, select "Set Selection End"
    11) From the "File" dropdown menu, select "Save as AVI" - Save as a new filename (e.g. "Movie2of2.avi").

Then convert each half with TMPGEnc. Then join your two MPEG files by using TMPGEnc as follows:

    File>>MPEGTools>>Cut&Merge

What are your system specs? I have done 3 hours movies in like 11hrs at high quality and I know i would only add at tops 4 hrs if i did a highest quality conversion. Sounds to me like you need a serious power upgrade.

      Homegrown Desktop:
      P4 2.4 @ 2.7
      ATI 9700pro @ 419.4/730.8
      3dMark01--17,189
      Air Cooled System Temps @ Benchtime: 2c--MB / 4c--CPU

      Dell 8600 Inspiron Laptop:
      Pentium M 1.4GHz
      NVidiaGF Go5650
      3dMark01--9,842

You may or may not see a "dramatic" difference.

Vcdhelp.com and doom9.org will give you a good understanding of TMPGenc and CCE. With TMPGenc you can specify the portion of the movie you wish to encode, and join/cut mpeg files. Virtualdub will allow you to cut/merge avi files.
