Using TMPGEnc: No audio track

[Newbie] I'm converting DIVX files to mpegs using TMPGEnc so I can burn VCDs. I did a couple of conversions OK. Then, I can't get the audio track to show up on a couple more DIVX files. TMPGEnc shows flat lines even though they play OK using MediaPlayer. File info says the (missing) audios are MP3s at 117 kbps and 143 kbps, respectively. The audios of the successfully converted files were MP3 at 191 and 159 kbps, respectively. What's wrong?

The "problem" audiostreams are probably in Variable Bit Rate (VBR) .MP3 format, which TMPGEnc cannot process. To create an audiostream that TMPGEnc WILL accept, do the following:

Simply use VirtualDub to save the audio stream as an Uncompressed PCM (WAV) file as follows:
Load your original .AVI into VirtualDub
From the "File" dropdown menu, select "Save WAV" (Enter a new filename with a ".WAV" extender).Click on "OK".


You can then load your original .AVI (first) and your new .WAV audiostream (second) into TMPGEnc.

Sync problem with WAV file

Thanks. Did as advised. During extraction of the WAV file, TMPGEnc told me there might be a audio-video sync prob. There was. After much trying to match the audio and video, finally gave up. TMPGEnc had also told me that I might avoid the sync problem by recompressing the extracted WAV file, but I don't know how to do that - Apparently another program is needed.

You are supposed to use VirtualDub to extract the audiostream in .WAV format, not TMPGEnc...

Sorry: made a mistake in reporting. I actually did use VirtualDub to extract the WAV file, not TMPGEnc. VirtualDub is the program that reported I might have a video - audio mis-sync with the WAV file, which was prophetic. I tried to use TMPGEnc to correct the mis-match, but I was unsuccessful. I put in a (-)900 m-sec correction and ran the mpeg conversion. Sound was off by about 6 seconds. Then I put in a (+)2000 m-sec correction, looking to derive the right adjustment by applying "Kentucky windage." However, now TPGEnc keeps crashing on me.
VirtualDub did suggest that I could try to recompress the WAV file to 117 kbps to get back in sync, but I can't seem to locate the directions on how to do that.

Solved

Problem solved. I used VirtualDub to mark the sections that I wanted to convert to mpeg (don't delete the unused section!); started VDub "frame server"; went to TMPEmc and did the conversion. Did half a dozen videos this way and the sound matches fine. Used advice from a separate posting at http://forum.digital-digest.com/show...threadid=13869
