Problem: A movie, let´s say aprox. 700 MB AVI(DivX-codec) must be converted to SVCD-format. How to? TMPGEnc seems to be a fine program but the size of the outputfile is to large. Of course I know I have to make two discs when burning a complete movie using SVCD-format, but isn´t there a program that will do this easy? And the worst part, it´s not really my problem, a friend with no computerknowledge at all wants to be able to perform this kind of operation.

TMPGEnc, used properly, doesn't generate SVCD (or any other MPEG format, for that matter) files any larger than any other conversion software.
As far as ease of use, for novices, TMPGEnc includes automated "wizards"/templates. -
Ok ok...
I know the size will be same whatever program I´ll use.
But I want to get that "split in two"-part to work easy.
Or do I have to start some "avisplit" or something?
Any difference in splitting an avi compared with splitting an mpeg?

I have, on occasion, found splitting already created MPEG2-SuperVideoCDs with TMPGEnc to be more successful than splitting the original .AVIs with VirtualDub (or NanDub). Be that as it may, the following procedures can be used for the method you prefer:
Splitting .AVIs with VirtualDub
Use v.1_4_10 or 1_4_9 (or 1.4D or earlier) as follows:
1)Load your original (DivX-compressed or otherwise) .AVI into VirtualDub
2) Set BOTH "Video" and "Audio" to "Direct Stream Copying"
3) From the "Edit" dropdown menu, select "Set Selection Start"
4) Move slider to approximate halfway point
5) From the "Edit" dropdown menu, select "Go to next keyframe"
6) From the "Edit" dropdown menu, select "Set Selection End'
7) From the "File" dropdown menu, select "Save as AVI" - Save as a new filename (e.g. "Movie1of2.avi").
8) From the "Edit" dropdown menu, select "Set Selection Start"
9) From the "Edit" dropdown menu, select "Move to End"
10) From the "Edit" dropdown menu, select "Set Selection End"
11) From the "File" dropdown menu, select "Save as AVI" - Save as a new filename (e.g. "Movie2of2.avi").
Splitting SVCDs with TMPGEnc
Note that if your video runs longer than 60 minutes, you'll have to subsequently split your SVCD-MPG file in two. This too can be easily and precisely accomplished using TMPGEnc. Under the "Files" dropdown menu, click on "MPEG Tools" and select the "Merge & Cut" tab. Make sure to change the mode to "MPEG2-SuperVideo CD". Load your file and enter a new (.MPG) name in the "Output file" box. Then doubleclick on the ORIGINAL file's name in the window, which will bring you to the cutting area. Select your desired start and end points for the first half, click on "Okay" which will bring you back to the first window and generate (in a sequence of three automated steps) the first new file. To create the second new file, repeat the steps starting with "Then doubleclick on the ORIGINAL..." (be extra patient with the second half, as the program has to do more seeking to establish the beginning of the new file).Comment
