splitting SVCDs

Hi I'm fairly new at this.

I just got done burning svcds with VCDeasy. The disc played great on the DVD player. The fist disc ( start of the movie) played great. The second disc (middle of movie) also played. However, the playback starts out with audio first followed by video a second later. Is there a way to sync the audio and video right a away at the begining?

I used TMPGEnc to combine the AVI file and the WAV file. I used the "Super Video-CD NTSC Film (MPEG-2 480x480 23.976fps CBR 2520kbps, Layer-2 44100" template. The resulting file has a MPEG video/aduo stream extension. Then I use DVtool to split the file down to 700MB chunks.

I would greatly appreciate any help I can get.

Just curious - since you're using TMPGEnc to create the initial SVCD file, why aren't you using its "Merge & Cut" abilities, available under the "Files" dropdown menu? (Click on "MPEG Tools", select the "Merge&Cut" tab. Set the mode to SVCD.)

I tried using TMPGEnc but it always lock up. Perhaps I'm doing it wrong. I was however able to split VCDs using TMPGEnc.

Can give please give me some detail instructions.

If you've successfully used TMPGEnc to split VCD files, you should be able to accomplish the same with SVCD by following the instructions in my previous post.

Cut SVCD

Dumbthumber...

you cannot cut SVCD-Material in TMPGenc if you dont
register or crack the software.
in this case you cannot work with MPEG2-Streams.

Audio-Video -Delays occur sometimes when the encoder-
software detects frozen images i.e.
Then you have to correct the delays with a video-editor like
ulead video-studio or other commercial products.

1) What is "Dumbthumber"? Is it derogatory?

2) The last three versions of TMPGEnc have included MPEG2 capability initially limited to 30 days.

3) The DVD Digest (a sister-site of this forum) has available an MPEG2 (input) VFAPI plugin available for downloading.

Well, I tried using TMPGEnc again. With so tip from VCDhelp.com. I was able to split the file without it locking. However, this time I getting the problem the other way around. Now I'm missing audio for the last few seconds of the file while the video is still play.

What should I do now ?

Did you ever play THIS (not-yet-cut) file to make certain that the video and audio were synchronized? Also, mostly just curiosity, did you create the .AVI and .WAV files, or did you download them?

Another way to arrive at the desired result would be to merge the original .AVI (which I presume is silent) and the .WAV file under VirtualDub - and then splitting this now-complete .AVI video in VirtualDub (make sure to cut on a keyframe). If the audio and video were in synch when merged, they should remain synchronized (for both 1/2 length videos) when split.
