    AVI to VCD

I need help to burn a VCD using Nero..... I tried using the MPEG codec to convert AVI to VCD with it but it always seem's to shut down about 2 hours later (before I have a chance to burn it ) I dont like TMPEG or however you spell it because it always takes FOREVER and last time I did it it didnt even work on my DVD player. The DVD player is an APEX fairly new nad is suppost to play VCD and SVCD. I ahve probly 20 coasters sitting by my DVD player. Last time I tryed to make one I converted and AVI file to VCD using EO Video. Pretty good quality but when I burnt it with Easy CD Creator it didnt work!?!?! . What is the shortest way to do this? I want good qualtiy but I want it now. Now in 24 hours when TMPEG has finnally finished converting! Thanks

It might be taking you 24 hours to convert a single movie because some of the options might be (incorrectly) set resulting in longer encoding times.

Firstly, use TMPGenc to convert, then follow this guide for encoding. Let us know how it goes.

Making a guide in Nero is pretty self-explanatory, i don't know of any guides, mainly because you don't really need one once you get the hang of it, its very simple. If you have a question about the menu, just ask.

          Nero Menus

I was wondering about when you go to make the menu in Nero what the "Pause after track" meant. You can set a number of seconds or press infinity. I have Harry Potter that I wanting to burn and I add a picture and name the movie "Start the magic" becuae I belive that is what you click to play. And so it turns out to have a picture of dobby, one of the characters and to the left of him it says start the magic, and you press play! I think that is how it works but Im not sure if the pause after track ahs anything to do with it.... getting ready to start TMPGEnc , I had to save the movie to disk as data to get it to this computer. Thanks

The "Pause after track" should only be used when you have several episodes of something on 1 disc and you want a pause between them. If you only have 1 episode/movie/track then you should put 0 because it just takes up space on your disc.

"You've been a good help ... Thanks again!"

              Glad to help

                TMPGEnc Movie Duration

This is only half of the movie and its 1 hour and 11 minutes. On the first page of TMPGEnc wizard I select VCD- NTSC film... it says it can fit 70 minutes one one 650 megabyte disk... And there is a drop down list underneath that but the only thing I can select is "CBR standard format." Do I need to clip the movie more or will it automatically adjust it to make it less quality? And why dont I have any burning options, Is my burner not installed? (I jsut had a computer store work on it and they had to move the cd-burner down two slots b/c they replaced the motherboard and the cd burner was to long to fit) Reply soon. Thanks (again )

"Do I need to clip the movie more or will it automatically adjust it to make it less quality? "

You *could* clip the movie, say, then ending credits, OR, you could just decrease the video bitrate so that it fits on 1 cd-r. In tmpgenc, in Settings:
Go to the Video Tab and where you see "Bitrate", decrease it until the wizard says the cd is 99.9% of disc capacity.

"And why dont I have any burning options, Is my burner not installed?"

TMPGenc doesn't burn files for you, it simply converts them into mpeg format. Use Nero or VCDEasy to burn them.

                  For any more help, shout

                    Neither. Just burn to a 700Mb/80Minute CD-R instead of a 650Mb/74Minute CD-R...

                      Encoding!!!

Its encoding right now!!! Its actually going very fast! I only have a 1.3 AMD processor. I have done this before and left the computer on all night and burn it to find out it didnt work. I have tried LOTS of different software and guides. It has took 1 hour and 17 minutes to get to 71% Well Im gonna burn it here soon. Can you suggest a guide for burning a VCD from DVD. I know how to rip it but do I need to convert the source files into anything before I use TMPGEnc? I mean... Am I goin to need any other software besides TMPGEnc, Nero, and a ripper? Thanks so much. I have been at trying to burn VCD's for while now (hey im only 13!)

In tmpgenc simply load up the avi like mentioned in the guide, select the appropriate settings, then its time to wait some more. Then when the encoding of TMPGenc (to mpeg) is finished you can go straight ahead and burn with Nero (there should be a guide for Nero on that page, or just ask if youre confused).

                          Playback

I burnt it. I was so excited. Put it in my DVD player and it says NO DISK~!??~!?~?! I am so mad. I put it in the computer and it syas VCD. It has to be the player. But it says on it that it plays VCD/SVCD/CD/DVD. That means that all the cd's layin around probly worked. Good thing I bought a spindle of 100... And a question for if I ever get them to play... When I played it in ym PC the display was bigger than the source file. The original one was widescreen and the VCD is almost a full screen. Is there anything to prevent this?

                              Player

it says on it that it plays VCD/SVCD/CD/DVD. Its an Apex AD-500A. Its a nice DVD player too. I am going to buy a VCD from Ebay to see.
