    VCD and subtitles

    Anyone knows, how to add subtitles into VCD?
    I want to convert DivX movie (AVI file) into MPEG1 and add subtitles from text file (microdvd or others). Then I want to burn it as VCD.

    How to add those subtiltes?
    PLEASE HELP!!!!

    Why don't you add the subtitles to the original .AVI file before the conversion to MPEG1-VideoCD format? there are several pieces of software (and, I believe, a VirtulDub filter) available for this purpose at the DivX Digest sister-site of this forum.

    Let us know of your success ;>}

      I do not make DivX movies, I just have already made DIvX'es and I want to convert them into VCD with subtitles.

        Just because you didn't make the DivX-format .AVI file doesn't prevent you from adding the subtitles to it.

          You will need
          a. Virtual Dub
          b. Subtitler plugin for Virtual Dub
          c. srt to ssa converter (the only formaat VDub can work with)

          In short
          audio --->direct stream
          video ---> full processing
          video ---> add filters --->subtitle filter ---> add your ssa-file
          video ---> compression ---> DivX MPEG-4 video codec
          file ---> save as avi

          Your new avi is too big for one cd (which holds only 80 min of data MAX), so you need to cut it
          Use nandub for this

          then convert your avi's into mpg with TMPEnc.
          and burn your mpg into vcd with Nero

          Easy, isn't it

            Doesn't it losses a lot of quality this way? Because if you encode a file to AVI file and then converted it back to MPG it losses quality...

            Is there any program that does this without losing quality...

              In this step:

              "video ---> compression ---> DivX MPEG-4 video codec "

              you will be able to select compression control and data rate
              Here you can choose your quality, but of course there is a price to pay on the form of more Mb's

              In TMPGEnc you will be able to select "highest quality (very slow)"

              If you use this the quality is at least as good as the original DivX. (better imho) If you want an even better quality then you should consider making a svcd iso a vcd
