    Mpeg Audio editing prob...

    well, not really a problem, so much as an observation... i recently got a movie that had VERY low sound... i had my 3 Bose systems maxed out and i still had to listen carefully to hear it

    Anyway, i obviously wanted to up the volume quite a bit on the file, so i opened up TmpgENC and discovered that the volume can't be adjusted without re-encoding the film... so i decided to use the "save as .wav" feature to re-encode the audio at 400% higher volume (MAX you can adjust it in that prog) and then multiplex it back in... well, that .wav can't be multiplexed back through TmpgENC, so i went into Cooledit to fix a couple other sound problems (clicks and noise and stuff) and saved it as .mp3... but then the audio was out of synch.... and then i realized that it would have to re-encode anyways to make it VCD compliant audio... BAH!!

    I've since been looking around for a simple program that would edit the sound in a .mpg file without being forced to multiplex or re-encode the video stream, but with no luck... is there anything you people know of that can do this? I know VirtualDub does it, but it saves as .avi (and i've thought about doing it like that then converting it back to .mpg with AVI2VCD but i don't really trust AVI2VCD that much since it's given me a few corrupt files...)

    Any ideas?

    Any reason you wouldn't use TMPGEnc for this conversion (from .AVI to .MPG)?

      well, it's mostly just me being impatient, since if i could get a program that would edit the audio only it would go a lot faster, but i really want to avoid re-encoding the video as much as i can, cause the quality isn't really all that great as it is, and obviously as it keeps getting re-encoded again and again it's gonna lose quality gradually...

      I ended up just doing it in TmpgENC, although i did finally think of a way to up the audio without losing video quality. I did the Re-encoding, then de-multiplexed the fixed sound file and combined that with the original video stream.

      But i still think it would be awesome if someone made a tool for Mpeg Audio editing, or maybe putting a feature for that in TmpgENC... it would save a lot of time for anal people like me

        Sounds familiar - glad it worked for you. "Sometimes you just gotta do what you gotta do" ;>}

          it would have worked the way you did it with cool edit but never save as mp3cause its compressed ..if you demuxed it or "save as wav" with vdub,then used cool edit ...as long as you didnt cut anything out or time change it ..it should have worked if you also saved it as a wav with cool edit and then remuxed...it works for me. but i understand the impatience for re-rendering but thats whats its all about.
