    Tmpgenc crashing windows XP?

I recently installed tmpgenc on my laptop which is a Sony Vaio running windows XP. Many of the files i try and encode, the comp automatically shutsdown or freezes in the first 10-12 seconds. I use Tmpgenc on my older gateway computer all the time with no problems. Just to make sure the files weren't bad i tried them on my gateway, and they encoded with no problems it just takes 3 times longer than it would if i were able to use my laptop.
Whats going on with my laptop? I can't figure it out. Its locking up on playback too on some of these files.

what are you converting divx to mpeg ? cause around that time frame it creats a temp audio file when it starts to encode the file and you may need to bump up the priority of the directshow.

make sure you don't have something different to help with audio layer 2 on the desktop from the laptop ...

these are both found in options environment settings ---

OK yes im converting divx to mpeg. Ive got the directshow set at the highest priority.

"make sure you don't have something different to help with audio layer 2 on the desktop from the laptop ... "

Im not sure what you mean by this? Thanks for the help.

            referring to my statement above
can you check both systems in the open tmpgenc and go to option/environment settings/external tools/layer 2 or 3 for that matter is there anything in there for either pc is so you will need to keep them the same i know i just reinstalled all my stuff and i got stumped for 10 days cause of this setting.

have you tried reinstalling the divx codec ? i just saw that fix a problem like this a few days ago ... has it ever worked on the laptop ?

I don't know that this will specifically address your problem but, Pegasys (the distributor of the commercial version of TMPGEnc) has a VAIO-specific converter/encoder available at its website:

We create the best video software encoder, DVD/Blu-ray/AVCHD authoring software, and MPEG lossless editing software.

If necessary, click on "Products" and read the information (including clicking on "more") regarding, "TMPGEnc DVD Source Creator for VAIO"...

i will compare settings again. Its weird because some files work with no problem (encoding on the laptop). Then there are others that it hangs up right off or completely shuts down windows but the files that are hanging up windows on the laptop encoded fine on my gateway.
Setarip, ill check out the link you passed me.
