    help! just want to put my video onto a DVD :(

    i just bought a sony TRV33 miniDV camcorder...#1 reason i bought this thing: So i can put my movies onto a CDR to play them in a DVD player

    Ive used the firewire to get the movie off my camera and it is in AVI format...the quality looks almost as good as tape when played on computer. when burned as VIDEO CD in nero, it looks like crap thru my DVD player. I've tried several differeny programs, several differeny formats.....someone help! i dont like how the quality sucks so bad...

    I downloaded this TMPEnc but it wont open my AVI to convert to SVCD .....i also tried adobe premiere and about 2 other prgs.

    found the option to burn as SVCD in nero, but it says you have to pay for that option..

    someone help! this sucks bad

    "I downloaded this TMPEnc but it wont open my AVI to convert to SVCD"

    What was the specific error message TMPGEnc generated?

        You'll need to download and install a DV codec (Canopus or MainConcept, perhaps others)...

        Do a Google search for either Canopus or MainConcept...

            Based on the image you've posted, it appears that you've mistakenly attempted to encode your .AVI using "TMPGEnc DVD Author", which is an entirely DIFFERENT program than TMPGEnc ;>}

                Go to:

                Download TMPGEnc - NOT TMPGEnc DVD Author ;>}

                    Once you've created your SVCD saga in TMPGEnc, use NERO ONLY to BURN (NOT CREATE) an SVCD, since you'll have already done this. You should have no problem having NERO simply BURN your SVCD file (Select the SVCD icon and simply "drag and drop" your SVCD-format file into the appropriate window. NERO will then ascertain that it's already in the appropriate format).

                    Let us know of your success ;>}

                      k burned it.... the dvd player shows like 4 folders when i insert the cd, and i found the movie in the mpeg folder......then when i play it, when there aren't giant blocks moving around the screen, the quality is great....but thats few and far between. its also jerky and stutters

                      any ideas? if i can just seem to eliminate the blocks and the stutters, the quality behind all that, is what im looking for!

                      thanks so far!

                        1) "i encoded it and followed the tutorial."

                        What tutorial was that?

                        2) "the dvd player shows like 4 folders when i insert the cd, and i found the movie in the mpeg folder"

                        As I understood your combined postings, you desired to create an SVCD for playback on your television via your standalone DVD player - and that you KNOW that your player supports SVCD playback. What you're describing sounds like you're trying to play it on your computer.

                        Please clarify.

                          ya my dvd supports it...ive played someone elses svcd in it before...

                          the "folders" thing....when i insert an MP3 cd in the DVD player to play, it also brings up folders with the songs in it.....its doing the same thing w/ this dvd ive made... :/

                          here is the tutorial i followed:

                          (then "how to burn" at the bottom... with nero)

                            Don't know what to tell you - that shouldn't happen. If, in fact, your standalone DVD player-Television setup recognizes BURNED SVCDs (NOT the same as COMMERCIAL PRESSED DVDs - and NOT the same as either BURNED or COMMERCIAL PRESSED VCDs), your burned SVCD should start to play automatically or the player should just wait for you to press the ">" PLAY button...

                              You may wish to try Ulead's DVD movie factory 2
                              It's very simple to use, open UDMF, select medium you wish to create (DVD,SVCD or VCD). now select your Avi or mpeg from your camara or HD, now you can stick a blank media in your PC & let it record to disc, or you can create an image file the choise is yours.
                              As for quality, I have found this better than TMPGenc.
                              You can download a trial version from Ulead
