tmpg converting avi to mpeg problem

newbie - I have downloaded tmpg enc 2.5.32 and was trying to covert an avi movie downloaded from file sharing. When I try to load into video source it say s file cannot open or is unsupported. How do I get this to work. When I go to environmetal settings I see that there are vfapi plug ins checked but do I have to go find others. Please help

Did you also download the plugin that is on the same site as TMPGEnc ?

Can you tell us a little bit more about the properties of the movie?
Video and sound ?

Which codecs do you have installed ?

hi! i have the same problem. I can't open DivX movies in TMPGEnc. I have all plugins, but everytime the error message appears: "Illegal Stream Format"

I'm not sure, perhaps the size is "illegal" try to resize it in Virtualdub.

I raised the priority of the "AVI VFW Compatibility Reader" to 7(!) and now it works. I think you could be right that TMPGEnc doesn't like the resolution! It's: 576*240.
