    Which is better?

    Hi. Newbie here. I've been using Studio DC10 to capture edit and save in .AVI format old 8mm movies from my wife's childhood. I've then been using Nero 5.5 with their MPEG-2 plugin to translate & burn both VCD and SVCD. Lately the translator has apparently been failing with something in the .AVI. Would it be better for me to use TMPengc to translate from .AVI to .MPG and then just burn the translated files? Does the ULEAD DVD moviefactory do this type of translation? I like the editing features of Studio DC10 but I'm not totally locked in on that package. Any recommendations and/or hints would be greatly appreciated.

    If you already have them in avi .............i would strongly suggest that you use TMPGEnc for the conversien into mpg2.

    You then can use Nero with this mpg2 to make a svcd out of it.

    Nero has a plugin for making svcd's but the main task for the Nero-program is BURNING, so i don't trust that feature too much
    TMPENc is THE tool for conversions into mpg1 and mpg2.

    If anyone has good experiences with this Nero plug-in (or with the directly avi ---> vcd) i would love to hear about it
    Although cd-r's don't costs that much nowadays, i'm still reluctant to try it out.
    But i'm open for new progs

      we have tried it once, but using TMpeg is a little bit faster and makes a little bit better quality too.

      your problem with nero:

      do u burn SVCD (mpeg2-code) often? i think nero only allows limited amount of encoding to mpeg2.

        IMPORTANT (I think)

        If you decide to use TMPGEnc, and are not using a "Wizard" or template that automatically provides your settings, make certain to set the mode to MPEG2-SVCD, rather than just MPEG2 (VBR). Likewise, for VCDs, make certain the mode is set to "MPEG1-VideoCD" rather than the plain vanill "MPEG1".

        TMPGEnc should serve you quite nicely, and at no charge ;>}

          i agree with setarip..i always use templates and there's plenty out there..tmpg comes with some. the only thing i change is under settings then the video tab i change the dropdown at the bottom to whatever is the slowest best quality. i also agree with abdul..nero is just for burning. and its tmpg that has the limit on svcd's.and if ronaldbeck has a dvd burner then it would be better with mpeg 2 compression cause aint that what a dvd is?you can still use whatever editing program and save as uncompressed avi
          or use huffy uv codec.then tmpg to convert.
