Bad MPEG output quality - help

I converted a dvd movie into MPEG but the video output MPEG file I get is not good. the whole movie is very dark. It feels like everything is shot indoors at night.

I tried conversion using FlaskMPEG, TMPGEnc, Panasonic encoder. Is there any particular setting where I can change brightnessfor the converted MPEG file..

TMPGEnc allows you to adjust the brightness. Press the "Setting" radio button. Click on the "Advanced" tab. Doubleclick on "Basic color correction". Adjust the "Brightness" slider.
