cd-players don't play vcd to my knowledge.

If you're trying it on a standalone dvd-player it will work if you made a vcd/svcd with nero.
Just burning the mpg onto a cd-r will NOT work.
Open nero, close the guide, select vcd/svcd and the appropriate standard - NTSC or PAL. press OK.
drag the mpg which hopefully had a vcd/svcd-header (this is not default in tmpgenc, you need to select it before encoding. MPEG tools can also rewrite the mpg to have a correct header). Nero will scan the file and report any errors.
it's a bit picky so just choose ok.
Try to burn it on a cd-rw just in case it doesn't work.
    - The question is: Why?
