Shrink a movie file

Don't know if this right forum, but here's my dilema. Download a movie and convert to mpeg to play on dvd player. But the movie is too big once converted. Is there software or other to shrink to fit or split into 2 viewable mpeg files? Please point me in the right direction. I'm using a cd-r not a dvd.

There is a lot of software that can do that !

TMPEGencoder was the Freeware.
While the other like EOvideo, and AVS video converter was a comercial software.

Any software that I mention above had capability of Converting and Splitting.

But if you just one to split your MPEG file, than you may used VCDcutter !
