Right 1/4 of picture cut off when play vcd on a dvd player

I want to have full widescreen like on a DVD (anamorphic?) on the 16:9 TV. I am using a Sony DVD player.

I am using TMPGENC but whatever video arrange method I use I always get fullscreen with the right 1/4 of the picture cut off when playing back on the DVD player with the 16:9 TV. When I say cut off I dont mean its black, empty space I mean its just not there.

Its not the TV setting since if I put the tv in 4:3 mode I am missing the right 1/4 too.

Under both the "Video" and "Advanced" tabs, set to "4:3"


Under "Advanced" tab set to "Center (custom size) and enter 352x240 (NTSC) or 352x288 (PAL)

If the original is in NTSC then do I have to encode it as a 16:9 NTSC or can I change it to 16:9 PAL?

My TV is 16:9 and is PAL but will play NTSC also. I am in the UK.
