Tmpgenc does not seem to encode

If anybody has a suggestion, It will be appreciated.
Can't seem to see any other problems like this one...
Am using Tmpgenc to encode divx and avi movies to use as a vcd.
However it does'nt seem to encode properly,, After encoding I check it, it plays as a normal movie in windows media player!!!
When I check the properties of it, It does say mpeg format.
In fact I have used different encoders and all have failed..
Have got codecs installed, Don't think its that. Have changed the directshow priority, Have used the wizards, But still no joy..
Could it be something has been switched off in the registry..am clutching at straws here,, ,,,I had encoded once before so I know its able to, Live in Europe so am using Pal...

    Any ideas!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"When I check the properties of it, It does say mpeg format."

When using TMPGEnc, did you make CERTAIN to change the mode to "MPEG-1VideoCD" (NOT "plain vanilla" "MPEG-1")?

By the way, you've not stated where your problem rears its ugly head. Is it that your burning software refuses to burn the file as a VideoCD, or something else?

Presumably if its encoded properly , And you were to click on it, Then you could not view it in windows media, But on something like Power DVD... Well the file may have changed to mpeg,, But you can still view on windows media,,, Is it suppose to change into something like 'bin and Cue' type file... Well it does'nt... Its not the burning thats fine, It's the encoding, which does'nt seem to change file be it avi/divx into mpeg from which I can make a vcd...

That's incorrect. TMPGEnc creates a compliant MPEG-1 VideoCD file for you. This file SHOULD play perfectly on your PC.

This has NOTHING to do with .BIN and .CUE files.

Simply use NERO to ONLY burn the file (NOT convert it, since you've already done this under TMPGEnc), by selecting the "VideoCD" icon...

          Let us know of your success ;>}

After reviewing your suggestions, I decided to update all the software, including using 'Nero 6',, Well it worked!!!
Your comments were very helpful, One of the problems was the old Nero (5.5) did'nt reconize the cd writer properly, therefore not burning as a vcd..
All I can is thanks for your comments, You've been most helpful..

            Good luck to you............
