Converting AVI to VCD color problem

    Hello all,

I'm trying to convert a AVI file to VCD using TMPGENC. The original video looks great but during encoding, the output video gradually turns into pink, then after a couple of seconds everything goes back to normal and then starts turning into pink again (Image attached) and so on. The audio sounds great.

Gspot provides the following information of the Original:
Stream Type & A/V Interleave: OpenDML AVI
    4CC: MP43/div3
    Name: S-Mpeg 4 version 3
    Video Path: (S) --> AVI Splitter --> ffdshow MPEG-4 Video Decoder --> Color Space Converter --> (R)

    Can anyone please help?
I've tried uninstalling and re-installing various codecs (Including latest Nimo and FFDSHOW packs), to no avail...

    Thanks
    A...

In order to provide some additional (possibly significant) information, please do the following:

    1) Load the video file into VirtualDub (or one of its many variants) or NanDub

    2) From the "File" dropdown menu, select "File Information"

    3) Post (here) EVERYTHING you see (BOTH video and audio information), or post a screen capture .jpg of the information box

(I'm assuming you have the DivX v.3.11alpha codec installed on your system)

Working with a COPY of the original .AVI, change the FOURCC code to "DIV3"...

Now wait a minute. Judging from the codec packs and such that were installed, I believe that angelpotion codec ended up getting installed.

I had the same exact problem described but got the impression that uninstalling the angelpotion codec was the answer and they were right. No more pulsing pink after ridding myself of the angelpotion codec. Dayam, the more I learn, the more confusing it gets.

In my case WMP "properties" for the divx (AVI) file I was playing said "divx decoder filter" but windows explorer properities for the file didn't agree, and stated a Angelpotion codec.

After uninstalling angelpotion the properties agree and all of my conversions are fine and playback of divx is better too.

Explain? how does this relate to the fourcc code. I don't even know what 4cc means. I know it refers to codec ID codes but that's about it.

Hmmm... looks like getting a 4CC changer and some experimenting with my mpeg4 encoded AVI's is in order. I am finding out that the best decoder for a mpeg4 AVI is not necessarily the same codec it was encoded with. Furthermore, someone could have used a 4CC changer before I got the file.

I do now get that the "dissagreement" between windows explorer and windows media player was due to direct show going down the 4cc list and applying the divx filter which allowed media player to play the file correctly. Somehow, (a change in the 4cc code?) the file got tagged as "angelpotion" causing video editing applications to decode the file as an angelpotion mpeg4 when the best decompressor was actually divx. oh, boy. As if things weren't complicated enough...
