After capturing an MPEG-2 from a VHS (3mbps), I can play the file in PowerDVD and it works fine. But when I try to edit and re-encode it with TMPGEnc for VCD, the audio sync is lost. I can still use the MPEG-2, but want a smaller file of the same film for other uses. In TMPGEnc, beside re-encoding, I trim off a few seconds at the beginning of the video, and remove noise at the bottom of the frame. Can these actions cause the out of sync problem? I know I can adjust the sync in TMPGENc, but want to know if there is a way to avoid the problem to begin with. I guess I am not clear on exactly what happens when trimming a video clip. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks and best wishes.

Thanks for the reply, setarip. I tried two things based on your suggestion. First, I demuxed the captured MPEG-2 and loaded the separate audio and video streams in TMPGEnc to re-encode the VCD MPG, and I then also demuxed and remuxed the captured MPEG-2 before re-encoding, but both methods yielded the same out of sync VCD result. Any idea why that is happening? I know I can fix sync with some trial and error in TMPGEnc, but I wonder if I can try something else to prevent this. Best wishes.Comment

"I wonder if I can try something else to prevent this."
If possible, initially capture the audio as Uncompressed PCM (.WAV). Although this will obviously make for a significantly larger initial file, it will be compressed upon conversion to VCD format...Comment

Thanks setarip, I think my capture device can do that. Let me mess around with it for a bit and I'll let you know. Best wishes.Comment
