best program for ripping dvds and converting to svcd files

the title says it all. I would like to know the easiest, highest quality (will sacrifice ease of use for quality) program for converting vob files to mpg. right now I'm using a combination of dvddecrypter, dvd2avi and tmpgenc, but I'd like to kind of do it all in one clean sweep, including the de-interlacing. is that possible, or am I just dreaming of a world where everything is perfect and easy to use?

also, in dvddecrypter, I'm using the ifo view for selecting what I want to rip so that I don't have to rip the whole dvd and then cut **** out. is there any program that will let me preview what is in the dvd so that I'm not just guessing based on the length of the files? and if not, is there any easy way to tell which ones to pick. and lastly, I need a program to basically just cut the ends off of mpg files. I've tried a few, but they all are either too slow, or end up cutting off parts that I wanted. is there any program that functions kind of like virtualdub that will give me an actual frame preview?

If you are simply desirous of creating a playable MPEG2 file (NOT SVCD):

1) Use DVD Decrypter to rip the DVD to your hard drive
2) Use MPEGCutter (MPEG2CUT.EXE) or ChopperXP to visually select your desired clips. Save with an ".MPG" extender

an altenative would be DVDx 2.2

it does all from the ripping to converting and splitting....
in most cases directly from dvd...

it can also process single vobs ripped from dvd with
the open mpg option......this program is freeware....


make sure to give dvdx a good deal of your ram
( there is an option to define the ramsize given to dvdx)
to lower the dvd drive stress

alright, well, I wanted to make a playable SVCD with some of them. I managed to do it farely well with tmpgenc, but now what i get is a couple of frames of flawless video, and then it seems to freeze on a frame, and then catches up to where it's supposed to be, and then freezes again. it does that throughout the entire video. is there any way to get rid of that?
