Problem Joining two MPEG files in TMPGenc

    Hi,

I'm trying to join two MPEG's in TMPGenc but keep getting an error message that the files are incompatible.

As far as I can tell they should be compatible (same bitrate, resolution etc).

I've found one difference - if I load them in VirtualDub, one comes up with an Average Bitrate of 1151kbps, while the other is 1150.

I tried to re-encode to 1151 but the result looks was 1152!

What I'm wondering is - should I re-encode both files with the same settings? That seems to be the easy but slow solution.

Or is there something I've missed?

Also, is there a utility out there that will read all the parameters of the files and report them accurately (like GSpot does for AVI's)? GSpot doesn't work on MPEG and I've heard VirtualDub is very accurate with MPEG's either...

If the two MPEGs were NOT originally parts of a larger MPEG, this is probably your best bet...
