illegal video stream???

ok i dl'ed a file (ufo roswell bbc documentary torrent download)
its an mpg file, but when i try and load it into nero for vcd and it says the file is not valid because of "streaming mpg"
so i tried to load into tmpeg and convert it but i then get the "illegal video stream"
however the file plays fine in windows media player
the info on the file info only says mpg...no further details

any ideas?

Technically, naming "ufo roswell bbc documentary torrent download" as your video file violates the forum rules (since the documentary is obviously copyrighted, and downloading copyrighted material without permission is illegal). I won't close this thread, since this is just a warning, and it's not a commercial movie you've downloaded.

As for your problem, both Nero and TMPGEnc are made by the same company using the same encoding engine, so if one fails, the other will fail as well.

It's hard to say what the problem could be, but you could try loading the MPG file into VirtualDub (http://www.virtualdub.org) and see if it gives you any errors.
