    Avi -> Mpg + Subtitles??

    Hello!

I've downloaded a movie from net which is
in .avi format with xvid codec.I also found subtitles in .srt format. The question is which is the fastest way to convert this to VCD with subtitles included?I know..there's no problem with vide/audio while i can convert it using tmpeg easily but how about the subtitles???

    thanx

@mJohnson: A Guide on how to Use DVD2SVCD to convert XviD to MPEG would be greatly appreciated

@ACIDRop: I-Author is the only Mutiplexer I know that can multiplex subs ina SVCD so they can be switched off. Its a commercial software only sold in China.

What about using a frameserver to convert it, so the subs are in the VideoStream itself?

in order to make the conversion you need :
            virtualdub
            tmpegencoder
VobSub instalation kit with textsub plugin for virtual dub.

Open in virtual dub the movie, go to Video / filters and add resize
new width and new height put actual size of the avi and click expand frame.... .Here put the actual frame width of the movie and at frame hight put ( frame width / 1.3) .
By this operation I have added the black to make the movie in 4:3 format. (especialy useful when the movie is in 16:9 format).

after resize, add another filter called TextSub (it was installed by VobSub in the custom installation process ).
Here be sure to put the correct framerate of the movie or else, the subtitle will be desincronized.
click ok's to return to the main VirtualDub window and select File/Start FrameServer. Press start and write the name of the film .avi.

live the little window and open Tmpegencoder.
in the wizzard open the file just specified in start frame server in virtual dub (name of the movie.avi).
From now, use the wizzard to export the movie in whatever format do you want...I recomend SVCD if your player know how to negociate with this kind of format....else use the vcd format wich is more common...Again, be careful what framerate will you be using....29.97 fps means NTSC, 23.97 fps means NTSC film and 25 means PAL.

This is a short presentation of what you have to do in order to make from an avi film (divx, xvid or any other codecs witch you have previously installed in your system) svcd or vcd...or even DVD .

I will not describe more here, but I recomend in TMPGenc...a few parameters : VBR instead of CBR, GOP-standard, motion search detection - slow or verry slow . and don't get lower than 1300kbps

            Hope this helps ...

In order to start the frameserver however you have to do the following:
              • In VDM (VirtualDubMod) Installation folder
                - Doubbleclick on auxSetup.exe
                - in the opend Window click "Install handler"
                - first part done
              • In the subfolder: aviproxy Doubble click on proxyon.reg
                - confirm with yes
                - Now VDM can be used as frame server.
              • Have fun with it

Instead of adding borders with VDM u can use the Arrange Method in TMPGEnc to preserve the Aspect Ratio. Choose Center (Keep Aspect Ratio) for VCD and Center (Keep Aspect Ratio2) for SVCD.

if u crop left or right black borders choose No Margin Keep Aspect Ratio (for VCD) - preserving Aspect Ratio in SVCD while cropping need Center (Custom) and the specified Width and High of your TargetFormat. (for advanced only). You can also use the Custom Arraange Method to correct "Egghead" input files while transcoding to MPEG 1/2. This might be worth an extra thread
