    Svcd

    MPG (Hedwig)
    FPS 23.976
    RES 352x240
    Bitrate 1150000 bits/sec
    Codec VCD

    MPG (Atlantis)
    FPS 29.970000
    RES 480x480
    Bitrate 2490000 bits/sec
    Codec Super VCD

    My Player: A Panasonic DMR-E20

When I use Nero to make an SVCD of the Hedwig MPG, I get a very nice quality video. When I do the same thing with the Atlantis MPG I get a disc that my player recognizes and begins, but does this horrific 1sec play... 1sec pause... 1sec play jerky thing.

I used MovieXone to change the resolution of the Atlantis MPG to 352x240 and re-encoded it as a Divx4 AVI. I then used TMPGenc (what an annoying name) to create an MPG from that AVI (there's a few hours of my machine's life it will never get back). I then used Nero to burn an SVCD of the final resulting MPG and got a decent quality video.

So, I stumbled blindly around until I bumped right into success, but why does it work? The standard SVCD *IS* 480x480. Should I believe that my brand new player doesn't like the standard.

Any insights and observations into this exercise would be greatly appreciated.

I am loading AVI filed off of Morpheus. Is there any way these files can be converted to a format that can be burned , ripped, or decoded to wind up with a SVDC that can be played on a DVD player?
