MP42 Problem

I can't load an mp42 video into virtualdub or TMPGEnc. I tried changing the file with fourcc, but then I loose the video. I can watch the video in my windows media player, why can't I convert it?

Download one of the many codec "packs" from DVD Digest/DivX Digest that includes this codec - then install the codec.
