    FPS conversion for SVCD... HELP!!

    Ok here's my problem. I have an avi movie in DiVX format that has a 25fps framerate. I want to convert it to MPEG-2 SVCD format.

    From what I understand the SVCD standerd calls for a framerate of either 23.976 or 29.97. When I tell TMPGEnc to convert the .avi to either 23.976fps or 29.97fps it the completed .mpg is jumpy. If I keep the framrate at 25fps (just to test it) the resulting .mpg playback is fine. So I assume that the jumpyness is due to the framrate conversion.

    So next I tried to change the framrate of the .avi itself in VirtualDub. The result is perfectly fine video playback but the audio is then desynchronized.

    What I really need is a program that will let me re-encode the .avi with a 23.976fps framrate that will also process the audio properly and keep it synchronized.

    BTW: just for shits and giggles I made an SVCD with a 25fps frame rate to test it in my player. Playback was HORRABLE.

    Any suggestions? I've been fighting with this for days.

    Are you using NTSC or PAL settings for the "Aspect Ratio" under both "Video" and "Advanced"? Based on the SVCD settings you've indicated you need, I presume you're part of the NTSC world.

    Chances are,w hen you load the .AVI into TMPGEnc, it is automatically dutifully detectingand setting itself for PAL (based on the 25fps). Change these settings to NTSC choices and let us know of your success ;>}

      Thanks for your reply,

      I made sure it was set to NTSC in both the video and Advanced tab, but it doesn't seem to have helped. The way it looks is kind of hard to explain, playback seems to pulsate, it's not very severe and is really only noticable when there are very large movements on the screen. After messing around with it this much I'm ready to just say screw it and burn it the way it is.

      Any other suggestions?

        Under "Video",try setting "Motion search precision' to "Highest". Also, set "Rate Control Mode" to "Automatic VBR". Also, set audio to 44,100.

              SIGH!!

              Well I finally just got annoyed and used the best set of settings I had to make the SVCD's.... It turned out like crap!

              I totally blame TMPEGEnc, it cannot seem to handle both converting the video to mpeg from divx and changing the framrate.

              I'm going to hunt for that Roxio Videopack5 and hope that will help.

              I was also going to try Vegas Video, has anyone had any good expierences with that?
