How do i get rid of the 'blockiness' in a VCD???

    Hi
I have a question, every time I encode a movie and then burn it onto a VCD and then play it in my DVD Player, it seems to work fine except for things like, Beginning credits, or bright colors with peoples skin texture, it looks 'blocky' around that area. Some times it isnt so bad but other times it is worst. How can i get rid of that? This is what I use:

    Step 1: Smart Ripper
-To of course Rip the movie
    Step 2: DVD2AVI
-To split the sound and the .avi up
    Step 3: TPMGEnc(wizard)
-To mupltiplex them together to a .mpg

I do all this and it works fine except for the 'blockiness' stuff. Please help!!! Thanx a lot. This is a very helful place!

vcdhelp.com has explained this issue. I believe there is an option (check "settings" box) which if you check, reduces blockiness. Unfortunately, I cannot recall this option however it should be rather apparent when you stumble upon it---or check out the "Tmpgenc explained" sub-section on the vcdhelp.com website. It's a great piece of info.

It's under the "Quantize Matrix" tab - at the bottom there's a box to check for "Soften Block Noise"...

part3 should include Roxio VideoPack5 to mutliplex and convert to a VCD file, this program will give nearly SVCD quality for a normal VCD file...very easy to use much better than tmpegnc it even burns..but i would still use nero...basically using this virtually gets rid of all the "blocks" you would see...hey setarip give it a try you might like it!!!

Thanks for the info, but the warez (or similar) route is not of interest to me...

                Setarip....

About VideoPack5 ... well I would suggest you to try VideoPack5 before you buy it ... and since there is no demos available on the Internet, you have the warez possibility..

I am telling you that 'cause I know that VideoPack5 have alots of problems with Windows XP (because of the emulator included with) ... I dunno under Win 98 or NT or 2000 ....

But I work with it now, it works fine, and for VCDs, it's the best software authoring tool I have seen 'till now... You can make alots of beautiful things with it.. but beware, I noticed that Roxio have a lots of difficulties offering good tech support for this product and other new bought products too... This is why I hesitate to buy it for now...
