    fixing audio stream

    hi,

i converted a divx .avi file to a mpeg-1 file in order to make a VCD. my problem is that at one point there's a skip in the video stream and so from then on the audio can be heard before its respective video stream comes on. how can i fix this? the problem is not in the conversion itself as the .avi file is like that too, but i'm not sure if it would be better to fix the .avi or the .mpg, if there's a way to fix it.

    thanks for any help,

    carla.

    1) Load the .AVI file (DivX-compressed or otherwise) into the most recent version of either VirtualDub or VirtualDubMod

    2) Set "Video" to "Direct Stream Copy"

    3) Select "Check for errors"

    4) Select "Mask bad frames"

    5) Save with a new filename

Is it now a constant error throughout?

almost. it starts a few minutes into the file and goes on until the end.

hmm, sounds like there's still a bad frame. If constant throughout I was simply going to quote Setarip's method of adjustment.
I'm out of my depth here I'm afraid

              Check here www.videohelp.com/tools?s=12#12
Divfix has worked for me many times, or one of the other tools might work.

Nice one Tigerman8u! I've barely looked further than the player/writer/media reviews. I must find time to explore this site further

carla, you could "cut" around the bad part of the file and save two seperate avi's. and later join them.this may be a solution for you depending on the length of the flaw. i do it as a last resort for damaged/unfixable files.

                  just my 2 cents...good luck
