    VCD or SVCD??!?! what's the difference?

    hi!! i'd like to ask what's the difference between the two?? can a SVCD be played on a regular vcd player?? what's the difference in their quality, etc??

    SVCD is much better quality - but the files are alomost twice the size. Effectively you will only get at most 45 min SVCD on a single CD-R where you should get between 60 - 70 mins of VCD.

    The other big difference is the encoding time - SVCDs seem to take over twice as long to encode from ripped DVD files(at least using Flask) as do VCDs. When you're talking 9 hours plus to encodde a VCD, it's over 20 hours to encode the same file to SVCD. If you can spare your computer for the entire weekend, or you have more than one, then SVCD is the way to go. I tend to use VCD because I don't have the time.
