Noob lookin for help with AVI 2 VCD

Been lookin at amny sites and forum but not finding the right answer. I got a few AVi's that I want to convert to vcd. I've tried TMPGE but get Illegal stream format. I believe the audio on these AVI's arre mp3 and read thet TMPGE wont work with these any suggestions on how to convert these

I think the avi's are corrupt or you don't have the correct codecs, I suggest you download the divx codec 4.12, and try decompressing the audio with virtual dub.

That is incorrect. TMPGEnc will handle Constant Bit Rate (CBR) MP3 audiostreams effortlessly. It will not, however, accept Variable Bit Rate (VBR) MP3 audiostreams for input.

Load the .AVI into VirtualDub

From under the "File" dropdown menu, select "File Information"

Post (here) EVERYTHING listed (video and audio information), or post a screen capture .jpg of the information box

Min/avg/max/total frame size = 11354/11999/12224 (35625k)

chamelon's suggestions are right on the money.

1) TMPGEnc cannot (presently) cope with DivX v.5.0

2) The file apparently was created with DivX v.4.12 - so download and install the v.4.12 codec

3) Apparently in an effort to reduce the filesize by a few Megs, an audio/video interleave of approximately 1:20 (rather than 1:1) was used. This will screw up your synchronization when you convert the file (especially if you have to split it) under TMPGEnc.

Therefore, once you've installed the DivX v.4.12 codec, do the following:

A) Load the file into VirtualDub
B) Set "Video" to "Full Processing Mode" and click on "Compression". Select your v.4.12 codec
C) Set "Audio" to "Direct Stream Copying"
D) From the "File" dropdown menu, select "Save as AVI" and save your now-modified file with a new filename

TMPGEnc should then be happy to accept your file for input and VCD creation (Under TMPGEnc, change the audio to 44,100)

I've been lookin for the 4.12 codec buut cannot find it. Just when i think i found it it brings me to the 5.0 version. Can some one get me the link to the 4.12 verson

If you've created an MPEG1-VideoCD (NOT "plain vanilla" MPEG1) file with TMPGEnc, you can use NERO (or similar) to simply burn as VCD (DO NOT ask NERO to convert the file to VCD!)
