Does anyone know a REALLY GOOD SVCD encoder. I tried TEMPenc, flaskmpeg, and ulead dvd factory and all loose some quality when using them to convert. Does anybody know a good quality SVCD encoder. I don't care if I have to buy it.

If you use TMPGEnc and set the resolution under BOTH "Video" and "Advanced" to the same resolution as the original file that you're inputting, you obtain an excellent quality image. Despite the fact that this appears to violate the "requirements" of proper SVCD, most newer standalone players (of course, they have to play SVCDs to start with) will play the resultant SVCD without any problems...Comment

Hey setarip
Hey setarip
So that means that I can made SVCDS with a higher resolution than 480x480 for my SVCDs (NTSC)?
The newer standalone players can play at the same DVDs resolutions?
By the way, is it posible to make a SVCD with AC3 tracks and to play it in standalone players?Comment

Hi - I get great results using TMPGEnc to convert NTSC AVI's but not excellent. Could you please elaborate on your thought.
When I open 'settings' in v.12j in the "Video" my choices are limited to interlace or not and quality. I use CQ and high quality (slow not the slowest) In "Advanced" I don't see "resolution" anywhere.

Thanks for your response, Setarip.
"Size" is greyed out for me at 480x480... Are you suggesting I can "size" to 720x480 and still have an SVCD that will play on my versatile "dual laser" standalone DVD?
Which "center" or "full screen" option would you suggest for "VIDEO ARRANGE METHOD"???
Please inform me how to 'set the resolution' the same as my input - (standard NTSC DV Video)?
TIA,

Click on the "Load" radio button and select "Unlock.mcf". The items will no longer be "grayed out"...
"Are you suggesting I can "size" to 720x480 and still have an SVCD that will play on my versatile "dual laser" standalone DVD?"
I was just watching "Pearl Harbor" at 720x480 on one of my standalones - a G.E. (Made In China)

Change "Video arrange method" to "Center (Custom Size"). This will allow you to enter whatever dimensions you please...Comment

Although SVCD theoretically includes this capability, thusfar I've only been successful ingenerating such a file that plays wonderfully on the PC (And, yes, Dolby 5.1) - but plays in silence on all of my standalones...Comment

Verrrrry Interesting stuff, Setarip. I can't wait to try it. I presume that you get a little over 20% LESS video on the disc at 720X480, right?
How many minutes of "Pearl Harbor" are on each disc, 30? Hope you have a DVD changer as I do...
Thanks for the info,
