If I take a mpeg1 that is say 30 megs. And I split it up into 10, 3 minute mpeg1s Then you think that you should be able to join them. But I get an error from TMPGEnc saying that one of them is not compatable. when it is the same exact one as the rest of them. and if I try to remove the (incompatable) file, I still get the same error with then next file. I get this error a lot and its irritating as hell. Anyone know a work around for this?

1) are you using the merge/cut feature of tmpgenc to do the "cutting" or another program?
2) is the 30MB source a TV capture by chance? sounds to me like you are editing out commercials. sometimes you will find that the "cut" may happen on a bad frame or something, perhaps you can change the "cut" points of a few of the 10 pieces just slightly? i do what your trying to do all the time and have never had an issue...kind of strange if all 10 pieces come from the same 30 MB source."One day men will look back and say I gave birth to the 20th Century". Yeah Im using TMPGEnc to do both the cutting and merging. I have tryed cutting them into 10 minute intervals, and 9 minute and 11 minute. and I get the same error. This was not captured from an analog source, came from a digital camera that records in mpeg1 vcd standard. Each file plays just fine with the correct time sequence, I had to use showbiz by arc software to merge the files, it had no problem doing it, I also uninstalled and reinstalled tmpgenc, still no luck. this doesnt happen all the time, just sometimes.Comment

i wonder if having directshow raised would make a difference? you could try that--otherwise it was something with the file.
Go to the TMPGEnc's Option menu and select Environmental settings. From there, select the
VFAPI Plug-in tab.
There you see a list of various reader plugins installed for the TMPGEnc. The one that's called DirectShow Multimedia File Reader is the one that we're looking at. As a default, its priority is -1. Select the item and right click on it. Choose Higher priority and repeat this until the "Priority" for this item is higher than any other plugin's priority in the list (usually 2).
by the way, what was the EXACT error?"One day men will look back and say I gave birth to the 20th Century". Jack The Ripper - 1888
