Time discrepency

I converted a DIVx to a SVCD using TMPGenc which resulted in a film with no audio.I read a thread somewhere that installing AC3 codecs may solve this so I'm dealing with that now.

However the original divx file was 618mb and after tmpgenc finished I was left with an mpeg that was 1.6 gb in size. This I was sort of expecting (maybe not quite so big). The original dvd was 82min and when converted to divx the film length remained about the same.

However when I play the mpeg in windows media player it says the mpeg is 3hours 56 mins in length???? Surely the film should be the same length as the dvd/divx. Could this account for the file being 1.6gb in size?

Windows Media Player will not play an MPEG2-SuperVideoCD format file.

If your file was not created in compliance (perhaps as an MPEG1-VideoCd format with a resolution of 720x480), the timecode will be foules up. Chances are, if you play the file, it will not be any longer than the original.

I did manage to open the file i created in wmp 8. When i click on properties it says mpeg2. I still havent got any sound though.

The file used was an mp3 - i read on one of the threads somewhere that nantub doesnt like mp3 is that right?

about your sound problem:
you need to extract the audio to an uncompressed WAV-file. Use GraphEdit or VirtuelDub to do this. Then you use the AVI as videosource and the WAV as audiosource.

I allways get the same problem when converting DivX with TempEnc, but this sulution is great...

By the way... If the samplerate of the WAV is 48000 you myst re-sample it to 44100. At least i got an error if i did'nt do this...

It is probably a VBR (Variable Bit Rate)-MP3 audiostream, which TMPGEnc will not process. You'll need to convert the audiostream to either CBR (Constant Bit Rate)-Mp3 or WAV format...

I created a wav using graphedit and then a d2v file using dvd2avi which I then converted using vfapi. The wav was then converted by some program (I forget which) to an mp3 - maybe it created a vbr mp3 as i certainly dont recall it giving me the option of cbr or vbr.

I then used nandub to multiplex - i think thats the right term - them together to create my divx. The result of this was a great looking and sounding file. I am assuming from what youve said that this means that when nandub created the divx file it created it using a vbr mp3.

I then wanted to try to create a svcd with the divx thinking in my ignorance that I could take this file which was only 618mb and possibly be able to get it on a cd. But obviously everyone would have tried that. I assume TMPGenc uncompresses the divx so that I end up with a file of about 1.6gb.

In TMPGEnc where it asks to select the video, I selected the divx avi i created which already had the audio (mp3) encoded into it.

Should i remake the divx correcting the vbr mp3 to cbr mp3 and while i'm at it whats the best resolution to use. I read that for the divx player to use 640x320 (cant remember exactly but it was 640 x something), but if i plan to turn that into a svcd (pal) or a vcd which i believe has a lower resolution thaen is it better to create the original divx at a lower resolution as well.

where it asks for the audio I selected the same exact file (the divx)- should I have selected the mp3 separately? -i have to correct the vbr mp3 to cbr mp3 first though.
