how do i open a mpeg2 file in flaskmpeg?

Hi,

Im trying to open a svcd mpeg 2 file in flaskmpeg and xmpeg4.5. I click on file, open media and select my mpeg2 file and it doesnt open. It just goes back to the starting position when you start the program. Does n e 1 know ow to open mpeg2 files in either of these 2 programs.

Flask and all of its offspring WILL open a "plain vanilla" MPEG2 file without any problem. An SVCD-MPEG2 is a modifed version, which they can't deal with. The way to remedy this is to use TMPGEnc to convert the file into the "plain vanilla" MPEG2 format as follows:

File>>MPEGTools>>Merge&Cut

Set the mode to "plain vannilla" MPEG2 (NOT MPEG2-SuperVideoCD) and simply save with a new filename.

I did that and it worked. thanks. but however, my mpeg2 file was 45 mins long and when i did what you told me to do it only did 11 minutes of it. Do you know why it may have done that.

Have you PLAYED the SVCD to determine that it actually is 45 minutes long? Many non-compliant SVCDs cause players (PC software and standalone hardware) to indicate erroneous time codes.

hi, yes i have played the svcd and it is 45 mins long. it seems to me there may b an error on the file itself. i dont kno for sure.

Did TMPGEnc generate an error message? If so, what did it say?

there was no errors in tmpeg...it just did the 11 mins instead of the whole 45 mins..

I'm not aware of TMPGEnc cutting short a procedure without issuing an error message (or, possibly, freezing).

What version of TMPGEnc are using?

For the sake of experimentation, I'd suggest that you try using the older (very stable) TMPGEnc v.1.2C. Post your results here...

The next step would be to again load it in under "Merge&Cut". Set the mode to "plain vanilla" MPEG2. Doubleclick on your file's name that appears in the window. This will bring you to the editing window. Move the slider to just more than 11 minutes from the beginning and set that as your start point by clicking on the left bracket("{"). By default, the end point is already set to the end of the file. Click on "OK" to get back to the first window. Enter a new filename in the "Output" box. Click on the "Run" radio button.

Hopefully, you'll end up with a valid 34 minute MPEG2 file. If, in fact, this proves to be the case, repeat the procedure and select the first 11 minutes of your original file (Move the slider to the 11 minute point and, this time, clcik on the RIGHT bracket ("}").

You can then use the same tool to merge the two files (Make sure to load them in the proper sequence).

once i hav put in the movie into mergeandcut and click on edit....tempeg seems to be working but it doesnt load..when i click on ctrl, alt and delete it says tempg not responding
