I'm new to downloading and burning dvd but i currently using avi2dvd. I been going at it for days and it's about time I figure it out which I believed I had up until this morning when the avi file I had encoded and decrypted and burned ended up not working on my dvd player. The screen is very jumpy..can barely see video and it's black and white (no color screen) and audio is fine. I have done everything according to the guide and internet step by step guides as well. I know for a fact I'm doing it right. If my memory serves me right it might have to do with ntsc/pal function. The help guidee doesn't say anything about which option to pick so I am lost..so lost..I'm at the point where I really need help. anyone please identify and/or diagnost the problem for me so i can finally have picture clear dvd quality recordings

The above remark was metioned in the guide. For PAL NTSC Conversion option, just don't check anything otherwise your output may become jumpyChoosing PAL to NTSC or NTSC to PAL Conversion might cause jumpy or sticky play back on certain movies. It is up to you to decide

Hi, more information would be handy:
What DVD player are you using and what TV standard do you use (or does your TV support NTSC and PAL).
From the sound of it you are definately in the wrong format. If I play NTSC on my PAL TV and convert it to PAL before writing I get a kind of pause / judder on scenes that pan from side to side, but that from the (pull down)conversion, the colour and everything else is fine.
If I play NTSC on my older TV without converting to PAL it looks Black and White and rolls, which sounds like what you are getting.

Well I have an Apex brand dvd player and magnavox t.v. they're both old and generic which could possibly be why I'm encountering this problem. As far as the t.v. I don't know what standard. I live in northern california ( not sure if that matters or not but more info. I guess would be helpful. I dont know much about PAL or NTSC. So anyways, from the sound of it are you implying that maybe because I have an older t.v. I should convert it to PAL? so what happens if I do convert to PAL is it going to work when I play it on a new t.v.? F.Y.I. I use HEENCE encoding

The problem you mentioned in the thread, IMHO, isn't caused by interlaced or progressive. Only USA and Japan use NTSC. Unless your DVD player comes with dual format (PAL and NTSC), the PAL DVD won't play in your NTSC only DVD player. I am not sure what kind of format your original AVI file is. Just remember that although PC's DVD drive can play PAL and NTSC, it doesn't mean that your standalone DVD player can. If you can't, please use VirtualDubMod's file information to check your AVI file and post it using LT. Columbo's guide below

Thanks for everything guys I figured it out. I knew it had to do with format but wasn't sure if it was the format i had encode it under or my stand alone dvd format and sure enough it was my dvd player. It was on multi which i assumed that means dual but didn't work so I switched it to ntsc and now it's aokay. thanks for the suppost ben and lycanthus.
