    encoding avi files to vcd

i'm new at this. i downloaded a movie that is a avi file. i can watch it on my windows media player. now, my question is when i go to burn it using nero, it starts the encoding process and locks up after about 10%. what now?? is it because i am using nero incorrectly. i am trying to put video onto cd.

Use tmpgenc to encode to vcd format and just use nero to burn
