writing mpeg to cd-r (i followed instruction but it still won't work)

I followed the advise from some of the postings on how to convert avi files to mpeg so it can be played on a stand alone dvd player (By the way great instructions ya'll give). Anyways, I used the Virtualdub to convert avi sound to wave, then copied movie file to silent. Then created a new avi file (i guess so that the audio was no longer compressed). Then i used TMPGEnc to convert this to MPEG (followed directions from another post to a T). Well the file seemed to convert just fine. Then I used CD Creator to burn the VCD. That seemed to go well. When I put the VCD in my dvd player it wouldn't play. I know that the first thing that you will probably say is that my dvd player doesn't support vcds or cd-r's. But the thing is it does. I play vcds that have been burned in my dvd player all the time. So i guess my main question is what do you think is going on here? Is it a formatting problem? How do I go about making this work? Is there someone out there who can help me solve this problem? Thanks.

Using vdub load avi file be sure to change (if needed) to 44100 hz, select full processing mode, save as wave. Don't worry bout silent movie. Just open tmpgenc and load as vid source the original avi file, load as audio source the new wave file. be sure you have selected the proper template and start encoding. Also unless there is a problem with the avi quite often don't even need vdub. Just load the avi as video source in tmpgenc and it should also appear automatically in the audio source too now just encode(with correct template) Also suggest using Nero to burn

i used nero, but with no success

For some reason i couldn't post goudagrl1 anymore (it said i was lockedout), so i had to reregister. but this is the same person. I did follow the instructions and i tried burning in nero (not as a vcd, but data plus audio). I did this because someone on the forum said in another posting not to. It still won't play in my dvd player. It plays fine in windows media player and it seems to be good. I even tried burning on three different types of cd-r's. Is there anything else that i can do?

what is the make and model of your dvd player?
Did you try burning as a vcd in Nero?
If it works in media player but not on your dvd player it really sounds like it is your player. let me know the make and model and I'll check compatibility. Also be sure and shut down as many programs as you can before burning

My dvd player is a samsung m301. I did try burning in Nero, but didn't do as a VCD (somewhere i read not to because it was already in that format). I burned it as a audio plus data file and then just as a data file. I was going to try and burn it as a vcd in nero, but not exactly sure how. thank you for helping me figure this out. If you can tell me how to burn it in nero that would be great. maybe i am doing something wrong. ususally i use cd creator because it is easier when i am just burning data files. thanks again.

Couple things. compatibility checks out for vcd but not xvcd. what is the file size of the converted file? second when you encoded with tmpg did you select the "vcd ntsc" template or "vcd pal" template? pal is for europe and ntsc is for north america which is what we need. Burning in Nero! open nero you now see new compilation window- on the left scroll down to vcd select it- now "encoding resolution" select "ntsc" also put a check in "create standard compliant cd" click new. now on the right find your encoded file and drag to the window on the left. down at the bottom there is a bar- make sure your vid will fit onto the size of the cd you r using. now click burn (burn at 4x speed) works best and make sure you shut down any running programs that you can

thanks for all your help. i followed all the directions that i found on this forum on how to do this conversion from avi to mpg and all of it worked. The only thing I couldn't get was it to properly burn in nero. aparrently my stupidity . was the problem. i was dragging the file into the wrong place and that is why it wouldn't burn. when i put it in the right place it worked. just tested it in my dvd player. it played (although the sound was kind of messed up... like it was skipping or something). I'm just happy i successfully converted the file.. now i will have to learn how to tweak all the things like audio, ect. thanks so much.. the people on this forum rock !! offering their help to all the newbies.. thanks again

Glad we could help. Your dvd player plays svcds have you given it a thought- much better quality than vcd
