    Joining 3 SVCD's

Can anybody please help on this one?

I have a film on my HDD which has 3 SVCD films to make, but, I want to make 1 large file to author it to a DVD.

I have tried TMPGeng a few times to merge the mpegs together, and although I get the messages saying Video file 5825.65 sec, and Audio file 5825.65 sec and it multiplexes them together, after about 30mins in the movie, the audio stops! can anybody explain why?

    Thanks
    Paul

    "and it multiplexes them together"

Multiplexing is a procedure used to combine videostreams and audiostreams.

Post the EXACT procedures you used in TMPGEnc to JOIN the three SVCD files...

      Re

      Hi m8
What I am trying to acheive is to merge the 3 files from 3 Disc's of Spiderman. When I put one of the three discs in the DVD player, it identifies it as a svcd, and on the disc I have the following folders: EXT, MPEG2, SEGMENT, SVCD. In the EXT I have a file called SCANDATA.DAT. In the MPEG2 I have a folder called AVSEQ01.MPG. The SEGMENT folder is empty and in the SVCD I have several files called ENTRIES.SVD, LOT.SVD, SEARCH.DAT, INFO.SVD, PSD.SVD, TRACKS.SVD. What I aim to do is merge the 3 disc's together to make 1 large mpg file and author into a DVD.
I first copy the contents of the three MPEG folders to my HDD.
I open TMPGeng and select MPEG tools and go to the Merge and Cut section. Click on add and select the three files in order.
Select an output file and start the mergeing. The problem seems to come from disc 2, the MPEG is about 735Mb large, but when it is merging it, it only does 400Mb of the second disc. I tried de-multipexing the second disc straight from the cd, but it does the same, stops after about 400Mb and not through to 735Mb. I need to find out what the problem is. The disc plays fine, and even when it is copied and pasted onto my desktop, it plays fine in Power DVD. My file system is NTFS, so it should support large files.
      Any Help??? Thanks, Paul

After you've loaded the three files under Merge & Cut, make certain to set the mode to "plain vanilla" MPEG2 (rather than "MPEG2-SuperVideoCD)...

              Thanks.

I think the problem is in the Simple De-Multiplexing part.

The file is 735Mb, but it stops de-multiplexing when the Video reaches 306 Mb, which then it will only play half the file?

if you're using the "Merge&Cut" tool, where does the "Simple Demultiplexing" tool come into play?????

                  Re

I need to de-multiplex to change the audio from 44100khz to 48000khz, and to change the aspect ratio of the video to make it dvd compliant.

After examining the disc 2, I found that, wheather I an de-multiplexing, or merging 3 together, it seems to stop around the same place on disc 2. When I have looked at the video on disc 2, the place where it stops has a few squared pixels for a fraction of a second.

It plays fine in Power dvd, the whole of disc 2, as it does when the three files are merged, using dvtools. But when I come to de-multiplex, it will do the first disc no problem, the second, up to the part where these squares would be, and the thired no problem, but this leaves about 20 mins of video and audio missing out the middle.

                    Hi m8,

                    I have overcome my problem.

Renamed the svcd files to a vob extension, and ran through DVD2AVI.
Used TMPGeng to make a dvd compliant folder and burnt to DVD-R.

                    Works great.

                    BUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
1 more if you dont mind.

How do you make a vcd 2 DVD compliant. Renaming it wont work, as the video aspect is different?

Is there an easy way, or is it long winded?

                    Thanks
                    Paul

Congratultions on solving your primary problem - although I don't understand why TMPGEnc didn't generate satisfactory results.

You first have to convert the VCD to "plain" MPEG1 format.
                      1) Load VCD file into TMPGEnc
                      2) File>>MPEGTools>>Merge&Cut
                      3) Load your file
                      4) Set mode to MPEG1 (NOT "MPEG1-VideoCD")
                      5) Save your file with a new name
                      6) Exit TMPGEnc (as a precaution)
                      7) Restart TMPGEnc and at the main screen load your new file
                      8) Set to "System Video and Audio" (lower right side)
                      9) Click on "Setting" radio button
                      10) Click on "System" tab, change mode to "MPEG2", NOT "MPEG2-SuperVideoCD (VBR)", (from default of "MPEG1")
                      11) Click on "Advanced" tab, change "Video arrange method" to "Center (Custom Size"), change dimensions to 720x480, or 720x576.
                      12) Change "Source aspect ratio" to either "4:3 525 line (NTSC 704x480)", "4:3 525 line (NTSC)", or "16:9 525 line (NTSC)" - If you're in the PAL world choose either of the two similar PAL settings instead
                      13) Under the "Video" tab, change the dimensions to 720x480, or 720x576 - for highest quality set "Motion Search Precision" to "Highest Quality".
                      14) Change "Rate Control Mode" to "Automatic VBR (CQ_VBR)
                      15) Set audio to 48,000Hz (224Bps or higher sample rate)
                      16) Press "Start"

You should now be able to simply change the extender to .VOB

can you post the exact procedure just like the one that was posted in this tread for doing the vcd files.

make sure you say which files exactly you copy from the svcd (dirs or files)

                              Thanks
